BIG news about the BIG Clean in October

The Canterbury City Partnership is currently organising the second Big Clean of the year, this time on October 8th.

Some of you will remember the Big Clean that the SDRA organised for the St. Dunstan's area in June (to coincide with Big Clean #1).  This was very successful and there was a noticeable difference, albeit for a few days!  We received a lot of positive feedback from this event and litter/tidiness is clearly something that many of us care about.

But we have a PROBLEM!

Many of the SDRA committee members are not available on the 8th due to other commitments.  I for one will be at a wedding.  This means that SDRA will not be taking a lead on the second Big Clean in the St. Dunstan's area.

If anyone would like to get involved and work with Philippe Esclasse (City Centre Manager) to organise something for our patch we would love to hear from you (email matmomorris@hotmail.com).  We already have equipment ready (e,g, litter pickers, brushes, weeding tools, etc.) and we guarantee that you will gain enormous satisfaction from sprucing up the area.

The reality is that without a volunteer to lead on organising an event for the SDRA patch it is unlikely that the wider Big Clean activity will reach us.  Not a major issue admittedly, but it would be good if we could show willing.

Please feel free to get in touch and we will do everything possible to support you in the run-up to the 8th.

For more information the press release from the City Centre Partnership follows.

///
Following the success of the Big Clean in Canterbury city centre in June, Canterbury City Partnership is organising a second spruce up in October.

We are inviting community groups and voluntary organisations to take part on Saturday, 8 October, while Wednesday, 12 October will be the turn of the business community.

The last Big Clean was a huge success due to the hard work of all the many groups involved. Businesses, voluntary organisations and community groups from across the city centre came together to clear rubbish, scrub subways, wash paintwork and remove graffiti.

We hope that even more people will take part this time and spare an hour or so to make the city look its best before the start of the Canterbury Festival.

For more information, please contact Philippe Esclasse, City Centre Manager, on 01227 787921, email philippe.esclasse@canterbury.gov.uk.
